On October 30, 2020, as the culmination of a month-long celebration of women-owned small businesses, the California Women’s Business Center Network held a live event broadcast via Zoom and Facebook. Facilitator Isabel Casillas Guzman (Director of the Office of the Small Business Advocate) led the 90-minute discussion with opening remarks by Senator Toni Atkins, Senate President Pro Tem.
CA WBC Network Director Nancy Swift opened the panel discussion with comments on the purpose and impacts of the WBC Network before introducing the three panelists for a discussion on the challenges and triumphs of owning a business:
Wendy Lieu, owner of Socola Chocolates in San Francisco
Filmmaker Fanny Véliz Grande of Avenida Productions in Los Angeles
Mendocino County’s own Cally Dym, fifth-generation proprietor of the Little River Inn on the Mendocino coast
This lively event was capped with a keynote address by Michael Shuman, a leading visionary on community economics and author of “Put Your Money Where Your Life Is.â€
